AT HAPPY CATS WE REQUIRE THAT ALL CATS BE VACCINATED AGAINST PANLEUCOPNIA
AND CAT 'FLU' AND THAT THE COURSE MUST BE COMPLETED 10 DAYS PRIOR TO BOARDING.
Vaccines are available against the following cat diseases:
PANLEUCOPNIA (ENTERITIS FIE): an uncommon, potentially fatal disease,
particularly of younger cats. Vaccination is required for boarding.
CAT 'FLU' (FVR Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis also known as Feline Herpes
Virus & FCV Feline Calicivirus): a common virus infection, much like
the human cold. Fatal cases are rare. Most cases are caused by two types
of virus which are included in the vaccine. Vaccination is effective and
annual boosters are required.
LEUKAEMIA (FeLV): this virus infection is common and life threatening.
Cats are infected either in the womb, by direct contact and mutual grooming,
or as a result of a bite from an infected cat. Cats up to four years old
are most susceptible to infection. Providing a cat is not already carrying
the virus, vaccination is very effective. A blood test is available to
detect the virus.
CHLAMYDIA (Ch): this organism causes flu-like symptoms and conjunctivitis.
It is a particular problem in breeding catteries (Happy Cats IS NOT
a breeding cattery).
Vaccination schedules
Two injections, three weeks apart, of both Panleucopnia and 'Flu' vaccines
are required, followed by annual booster.
Two injections, three weeks apart, of Leukaemia vaccine is also available,
which can be carried out at the same time, followed by an annual booster.
